The safety lever is an internal component that is usually found inside version 2 gearboxes. It is a swinging lever whose primary function is to block the trigger from moving when it is engaged.
It interacts with the selector plate which pivots it to and from the path of the trigger. When the AEG selector is set to the safe mode the selector plate pushes against the safety lever and pivots it in the way of the trigger.
